Day 7: RTWH takes on Charleston

Today we drove to Charleston South Carolina to see Gibbs Knotts and Jordan Ragusa, the authors of our textbook, First in the South. First of all, Charleston is absolutely beautiful and the college campus was no different. I really loved being able to walk around the city with our class and have some time to ourselves on one of our last days together!

I had never met any of the authors of my textbooks so it was really exciting to be able to ask Knotts and Ragusa questions regarding the materials. I asked a lot of questions and I really loved how excited they seemed to be able to answer all of them. It was especially cool to talk to them now that South Carolina is First in the Nation, not just First in the South and hear their thoughts on that since when they wrote the textbook that was not the case so we could ask them how that changes their original perceptions.

Michael Mullay, the DeSantis campaign state director was also there and it was cool to hear the different perspective of another campaign team. It was also especially interesting to hear from a campaign staffer after their candidate had dropped out so we could get his hindsight reflections from the campaign.

In another unexpected turn, we ended the day at another Nikki Haley campaign stop at the SS Yorktown!
