Day 4: Dr. Scott Huffmon from the Winthrop poll, tour of the Governor's mansion, and guest lectures from Congressman Jim Clyburn, and Biden-Harris directors

Tuesday was an action packed day! We started with a presentation by Scott Huffmon from the Winthrop poll and learned lots of valuable information about polling. Specifically, we learned how to write questions more effectively to get the answers you are looking for. Word choice is extremely important because how you curate questions can largely determine the answers you will receive.

This morning we took a tour of the Governor's Mansion, I was taken aback by how beautiful the house is and it was lovely hearing some of the history of the house. However, it would have been nice to get more of an in-depth and honest history of the building of the mansion and the history of the confederacy and how it intertwines with the history of the state. Our tour guide did a great job it just felt odd to leave out such an important part of the history.

Later in the day we returned to our internship placement at the South Carolina Democratic Party and got to hear from legendary Congressman Jim Clyburn. His wisdom and experience was amazing to hear from. The most important thing that he said to me was to find your why, and that will keep you going.

We also heard from Scott Harriford, Biden-Harris State Director, former state political director and Jalisa Washington Price Biden-Harris Senior Advisor, former Harris State Director and Clinton State Political Director. They explained to us the difference between a State Director and a Political Director as well as the inner workings of campaign organizing on a state level.
